April 24, 2008 City of Sultan Budget Workshop & Council Meeting

PUBLIC COMMENTS

  • Steve Harris (lives on 124th Street; is a developer) - States the City cannot afford to raise traffic impact fees, otherwise "it will die." Recommends the city contact the City of Lacey to learn how they dealt with similar problem many years ago. (Audio File C-1, 3:56 min., 694 kb)
  • Rob Shuler (Purchased a small RV storage business that hasn't panned out, but local towing Co. considering using it for storage, but he's "a couple feet short" of Sultan's min. lot size requirement.)- Wants approval to house RVs on his current biz lot bordering Wagleys Creek; "only 350 feet short" of SMC req.   • Loretta Storm (GRIT webmaster, Secretary of the U. S. 2 Safety Coalition) - Various: Congrats on city's large sign on U. S. 2 (in front of Front Porch/Weed & Feed announcing the community clean-up), but suggests a similar "permanent" sign announcing the time, place and regular dates of council mtgs. would also be helpful; comments in favor of making Building permit dept. an "enterprise" fund, moreover, to ensure that all planning staff time is billed back to the developer to truly "make development pay for itself.     • Steve Slawson - Re Harris' comments re city of Lacey and impact fees; re comments by "some" re council members' lack of attendance at the Joint PB/Council meetings/workshops; anounnced impending meeting re the upper Sultan Basin's "Multi-use" park (& Shooting range). ADDITIONALLY, requested a moment of silence for a small prayer "for my mom and Bruce's dad.")
    • Bruce Champeaux - Re multi-use park (might also be used for "running and ducking" too); promised review of non-compliant RV storage lot; Re Harris concept re spreading impact fee "over a period of time rather than all at once" and feels it needs to be reviewed again.

  • Snohomish Co. Interim Sultan Police Chief Rick Hawkins - Re bus stop activity and mentionable work by all SPD personnel, with particular attention to Off. Gillespie and Ed Perea. (Audio File E-2, 2:30 min., 441 kb)
  • Mayor Carolyn Eslick "Report" - (1) Her recent absences were because of vacation; (2) during which time the home of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law was broken into (3) kudos to SPD for finding culprit. Re Keith Arndt's suggestion, she does plan on speaking with the MBA (Master Builders Association); (4) likes concept offered by Storm of "permanent" sign announcing days/times for council meetings. Meeting adjourned at 10:02 PM. Immediately following, C/M Kristina Blair requested that Steve Slawson's request for a moment of silence for his mom and for Bruce Champeaux's father be honored, and requested that Jim Flower's father be added. [No explanation was given as to why this request was made, but we're assuming Messrs. Champeaux, Flower and Slawson lost the loved one mentioned.]
