COMMUNICATION ISSUES:

SENT 12-01-01 TO MAYOR ROWE AND CLERK LAURA KOENIG

Dear Mayor Rowe and Laura:

The email exchanges below detail my continued requests for more effective
and open communication for Sultan residents. As you know, I have spent a
good deal of time and personal finances trying to inform Sultan taxpayers.
Even though I do not live within the city limits, decisions made by the City
affect my husband and myself, and many others, very directly and personally.

I am making three requests:

1) That the below requests are complied with; this includes ANY notice,
whether or not it is a legal mandate. I should not have to submit and pay
for public information requests to receive information of interest to the
greater Sultan community in order to post them on my website.
2) The council packets INCLUDE a complete text of any ordinances
scheduled for discussion during a council meeting. This was being done for
a short time, but their inclusion has since disappeared. Ordinances can be
included as attachments, rather than as part of the council packet. Or you
may send them to me and I will post them as part of the council packet. The
purpose of this is clear: Citizens can hardly comment on an item of this
import without prior review.
3) If the city does not wish to comply with items #1 and #2 above, then
I'm requesting that an email distribution list be compiled and maintained by
the city in order to send out material of interest to ALL citizens,
especially notices of application, any notice that requires legal notice;
i.e., hearings, etc. The city made a baby step forward with electronic
dissemination of the council packets and certain notices, but in this age of
instantaneous communication, it is an incredibly easy, inexpensive, and
citizen-responsive action for the city to maintain such a list. Anyone
wishing to receive public information of any kind from the city would be
able to receive it instanteously as the city sends it out, simply by
requesitng to be included on this list.

I eagerly await your response,

Loretta Storm
