Brennan Deveraux, Sultan City Councilman

15-year-old Sultan High School student Brennan Deveraux made state history when he was sworn in November 6, 2002 (see below pictures) as a student councilman (non-voting). This idea was originally brought to the council for consideration and action by Councilmember Jimmy Porter. And although it took awhile to put together, the idea seems to be catching on throughout the state, with several cities writing their own ordinance to allow this.

And if we're any judge of character, this chap is in for many history-making actions. He's not afraid to tackle issues others on the council either don't wabt to address or waffle on, either by abstaining on, or absenting themselves for important votes. Brennan is a cool, refreshing breeze ripping through the council chamber, a welcome additon to a city desperately in need of new views and a long-overdue housecleaning.
