We received the following email from Sultan Resident and ProSultan Board Member John Dick, requesting our help in what we believe to be a worthy cause in which everyone in Sultan can particpate.

ORIGINAL EMAIL RECEIVED FROM DALE DOORNEK, requesting your help:
Dear friends and supporters,

This letter has been generated in hopes of raising enough finances through charitable contributions to cover expenses accrued for my participation in the second World Rowing Championship scheduled to occur August 24 30, 2003 in Milan Italy. I have been selected as the fittest and strongest member forthe US Adaptive Rowing Team to perform in the “Arms” only fixed seat-rowing class. As a team member I will be participating in a training camp for 14 days in Philadelphia Pennsylvania from August 4-18, 2003.

Associated with this training are costs, expenses, and fees of roundtrip airfare from Seattle to Philadelphia, hotel, transportation, and training fees. The total estimated cost to attend the training camp is $2,500.00. All financial contributions are fully tax deductible. The Philadelphia Rowing Program for the Disabled (PRDP) is a 501c-3 non-profit organization.

Contributors requiring a receipt for tax purposes may make a check payable to PRPD with the statement “Milan Account, Dale Doornek” in the memo box and send to the address listed below. Any financial contributions offered will be greatly, respectfully, and humbly appreciated. Funds remaining in excess of expenses will be donated to the Sammamish Adaptive Rowing Association for future adaptive events or the purchsase of adaptive equipment for the program.
Thank you for your support in becoming a World Class Athlete.

To whom it may concern:
The year 2002 was an exciting year for adaptive sports. For the first time ever, adaptive races were held during able bodied world championships. The > USA sent a team to Seville, Spain for the FISA Rowing World Championships and on September 18, three US teams were able to earn a gold, silver and bronze medal in adaptive rowing. You can find more details about this
> exciting event on the following website links.

Participation in World Championships is a vital first criterion for
adaptive rowing to ensure inclusion in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.
>
Again this year we are getting ready to participate in the FISA Rowing
World Championships, which will be held during the last week of August in Milan, Italy. We are excited about the members of the US Adaptive Team.  We have some very able rowers who have been training hard for this event.  Our
team should stand out as a representative of what adaptive rowing should be:the team is mixed gender and includes a spectrum of disabilities from spinal cord injuries to amputations, Cerebral Palsy, and visual impairments.   We are also very fortunate to have recruited a skilled and experienced coach: Tom Hewitt has his USRowing Level III coaching certification. We have planned a training camp for the national team here in Philadelphia for 14 days before we leave for Milan on August 20. Our greatest concern
is the funding of this project. We have to get 8 rowers, the coach and one assistant to Seville. It will cost $3,500.00 to send one rower to Milan. This includes transportation, accommodations and food, training and transport of the boats. After appealing for funding to USRowing, we were
told that even members of the regular US team have to raise their own

funds.

It is our sincere hope that you can assist us to achieve our very best in realizing this quest. We hope that you will give Dale your fullest support and sponsor him for the World Rowing Championship.

The total costs and expenses to participate in the World Rowing
Championship are estimated at $6000.00. ($2500 for expenses to Philadelphia, $3500 for expenses to Italy)
Contributors requiring a receipt for tax purposes may make a check payable to PRPD with the statement “Milan Account, Dale Doornek” in the memo box and send to the above stated address. This way the contributions are fully tax deductible. PRPD is a 501c-3 non-profit organization.
