All about "Power by Flower" (mid-September, 2003)

Flower Power sign
Remember the 60's flower power, when the intolerant, if effective, anti-government and anti-war protestors were advocating everyone should think only as they did? The same sort of intolerance in Sultan seems to be represented in this "Power by Flower" sign. Although we tend to agree with the sentiment that every voter should exercise their right to vote, does this rather heavy-handed sentiment posted by Candidate Jim Flower infer that folks who don't vote shouldn't be represented? (What's truly weird about this sign is that Jim Flower has crafted both his smaller signs and his great big sign to look as if they belong to John Dick. Why would he do that?)

The sign below contrasts rather starkly, we think, to the one above, The positive promise printed on John Dick's signs (below) that read: "I will work hard for Sultan," to us, at least, seems what Sultan needs to help stabilize the council.

Ah-h-h-h, it looks as if it's going to be another lo-o-o-ng election, folks. (If you don't believe me, pick up the latest Valley Review (Vol. I, Issue 11 dated 9/19/03) at the Sultan Bakery or the True Value Hardware store. This "news" paper, which, after initial stabs at trying to appear to remain somehwat objective, we are now forced to admit is just another bird cage liner, due to their irresponsibly skewed coverage of the candidates. We were hoping, based on the positive actions by Editor Brady's dad Ed Boucher in doing a bang-up job of hosting the Chamber's candidate forum at his Dutch Cup Restaurant, that the "news" paper could maintain at least a semblance of objectivity. Unfortunately....NOT!)

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK: Same ol', same ol': The 2003 election didn't change much from 1999, when Rowe's supporters and running mates "disappeared" Carolyn Eslick's signs when she was a council member running for mayor. Yet, when viewing the photo below -- which was taken on Main Street, a virtual "Rowe Row," , if looks as if the Bad ol' Boys were playing fair. But take a CLOSER LOOK HERE
