Good Day Mayor Walser and others,

Please forward this on as needed. Here's some info on the current status of
funding requests (federal and otherwise) for US 2:

* The Safety Coalition received a $500K federal Appropriation (earmark) for 2005 for US 2, and those funds will be made available to WSDOT to prepare a Route Development Plan.
* An additional $500K request for the US 2 study was included on a list of transportation projects submitted to Senators Murray and Cantwell for the TEA-21 Reauthorization bill. (As I understand it, this Senate list supplements an earlier list of projects already submitted to House members that did not include any funds for US 2.)
* WSDOT also included another $500K request for the US 2 study for the 2006 federal Appropriations funding pot.
* There is going to be a $100K application for the PSRC Rural Corridors program for the US 2 corridor study.

So as I understand it, we have $500K so far, and pending proposals for an
additional $1.1M out there.

The consensus among WSDOT staff is that local support for the two $500K
federal requests above (Reauthorization and 2006 Appropriations) would be
helpful and timely. I'm sure that we'd appreciate a city or the Coalition
sending a letter of support.
