How Councilman Jim Flower, Councilman Ron Wiediger and City worker Dave Helman got the flag flying once more over the Sultan Police Department.
A question posed by Dave Helman to Chief Walser during the Police Levy's kick-off meeting started the ball rolling when Dave asked why the Sultan PD doesn't have an American flag flying above its building like all the other cities' police departments. The Chief explained that the flag and the flagpole were broken by the wind in the last big windstorm and the SPD didn't have the $300 for the repair and replacement.
Councilman Jim Flower immediately asked the chief if he could take a look at the pole to try and fix it. As anyone who's seen Jim's "Flower Racing" outbuilding/shop can tell in an instant, the man would be incapable of poor workmanship. And so it was with the new flagpole, not only did he repair the pole, he replaced the rigging and added a beautiful and welcomed enhancement -- a top-mast sign that reads"Sultan" in same diamondplate Jim used for his own Flower Racing business sign.
Councilman Ron Wiediger had earlier donated $300 for a new American flag replacement,, the one that now waves proudly above the PD.
