G.R.I.T UPDATE May 25, 2007
Despite a full house of citizens asking the Council to retain the SPD, and almost six months of work attempting to determine accurate cost comparisons between retaining the SPD and contracting with the Sheriff's Department, last night the Sultan City Council voted to direct Staff to enter into contract negotiations to try and nail down those elusive Apples-to-Apples costs on two alternatives:
Alternative #3 (a full-service contract
with the Sheriff's Dept.) and
Alternative #4 (Sheriff's Dept. would provide "on-call, as-needed"
services to the SPD).
Only two
council members bucked this
apparently-unstoppable Mayor-council tsunami of change: Standing firm and
voting nay were John Seehuus and Jim Flower. On behalf of the
hundreds of Sultan citizens who have turned out at three major public meetings,
as well as last night's, our thanks to you, gentlemen.
Of Interest: Former Sultan Councilman Dusty Boucher and Sultan High School teacher, and Editor of The Valley Review, put in a rare
appearance at last night's meeting. He stayed until the meeting's close
(after 10 PM) and complimented the council for their vote re the SPD.
All audio of last night's meeting will be posted on our website this weekend.

PLEASE DRIVE GENTLY this holiday weekend, not only on U. S. 2 but everywhere.
Consider this: There is absolutely no shortage of bad and/or
wreckless drivers out there, over which you have no control or defense but
driving with extreme caution. The life you save may very well be your own.
